The 13th World Congress in Computational Mechanics

From 23rd to 27th of July, the World Conference on Computational Mechanics – WCCM 2018 took place in New York (USA). Two AdMoRe Early Stage Researchers (ESR) (Giacomo and Rubén) attended this event in which more than 3000 people were present and which covered many topics: structural mechanics, fluid dynamics, biomechanics and mechanobiology, manufacturing and materials processing among the others. In particular two sessions captured my attention: the one related to Model Reduction, Big Data and Dynamic Data-Driven Systems and the one related to Advanced Numerical Strategies for the Factory of Future. Both of them were organized by some AdMoRe supervisors among the others and strictly related to my PhD thesis so that I had the possibility to discover and to learn many new techniques and ideas related to this topic which could be very useful for my future PhD works. Anyway I didn’t present my work in this section (I presented in the one related to the effects of manufacturing on the mechanical performance of composites) showing how Model Order Reduction is a very general topic which can be useful in many different fields and how the techniques developed by our community are really appreciate and used every day more in engineering.

Obviously traveling to New York was also a great opportunity to visit this incredible city where you have the opportunity to see the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and the Empire State Building among the others. In particular the conference was held in Times Square, the heart of Manhattan, which offered an amazing view at each time you left the conference at the end of the day with its very high building, its theatres where many musicals are performed every day and its thousands of people in the streets.
