GeM is a joint research unit of École Centrale Nantes, Université de Nantes and CNRS.

It was recently (2011) awarded an A+ mark (highest) by the French national evaluation agency AERES, and is recognized as a centre of expertise in modelling and simulation for civil and mechanical engineering, both nationally and internationally.

The Institute currently counts over 50 research staff and faculty, and about 100 Ph.D. students, with about 20-25 graduations per year.

It has a long history of strong links with industry, which allowed establishing several industrial chairs in the last few years, supported by companies such as EADS/Airbus or Faurecia. Its research teams attract external funding ranging between 2.5 and 3 M€ every year.
