Part of Siemens’ Healthcare Sector, Siemens MR Magnet Technology (SMT) designs and manufactures superconducting magnets for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
SMT produces over 40% of the world market of superconducting magnets used in MRI scanners. With over 30 years of magnet development success, magnets designed and manufactured by SMT were at the heart of 8 new Siemens MR products, launched over the last 12 years (see http://www.healthcare.siemens.com/magnetic-resonance-imaging).
The company has an annual turnover of around £190m, and employs over 440 people at its Oxford facility in the UK. SMT’s design and manufacturing excellence has been recognised with a number of prestigious awards, including the Cranfield University award for Process Innovation, and the Manufacturing Excellence award for Engineering Product Innovation from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
